Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Murphy's Classes

This week, we kicked off our new unit on Clothing!

The children were excited to explore a variety of clothing-themed books and learn all about different types of clothes. We also investigated various fabrics and talked about what clothing is made of. During our whole-group discussion, the children shared what they already knew about clothing, which sparked great conversation and curiosity.

We read a felt-board story of The Snowy Day, which was a perfect way to start the week after all the snow we received! Our sensory table was filled with snow, and it quickly became a favorite activity.

Another highlight was reading Caps for Sale. In small group, we practiced writing our names using a name model on a small "cap." After writing, each child taped their name to our tree. Then counted the total number of caps in the tree. This activity helped support letter recognition, early writing skills, and pride in their growing independence. In art, children had so much fun creating their own caps, which they are now proudly displaying in our classroom.

In dramatic play, we added a laundromat, which the children absolutely loved! They took turns washing and drying clothes and even used the iron to smooth out wrinkles. It has been a wonderful hands-on way for them to explore how we care for clothing.

IEP Progress Updates Sent Home on Tuesday

If your child has an Individualized Education Program or IEP, your child's teacher or speech language pathologist will be emailing you a progress update by the end of the word day on Tuesday, December 9.

If your child had their annual review or IEP meeting between October 27 and December 9, you will NOT receive a progress update on Tuesday because you recently received one at your students IEP meeting.

Dress for the Weather

As the weather continues to change, please be sure to dress your child appropriately for the conditions. We will continue to go outside for gross motor activities, weather permitting.

To help your child stay comfortable and safe outdoors, please send them to school with:

  • A warm jacket or coat
  • Hat and gloves/mittens
  • Extra layers for colder mornings

If you would like to change out your summer extra clothes that stay at school for warmer ones, please send us a pair of pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and socks.

Please also make sure to label all clothing and personal items with your child’s name to help prevent them from getting lost or mixed up with others.

Car Seats

Please have your child in the right car seat for your child's age, height, and weight in your vehicle when you drop-off or pick-up your child from school.

The Child Passenger Protection Act requires that all children under age 8 be properly secured in an appropriate child safety restraint system.

Children ages 2 to 4 should remain in a rear-facing safety seat for as long as possible, or until they are at the upper height or weight limit of the seat. When a child out- grows a rear-facing safety seat, he or she may transition to a forward-facing seat with a harness system.

Children ages 4-8 should be secured in a forward-facing safety seat with an internal harness system until they reach the upper height or weight limit allowed by the car seat manufacturer. When a child outgrows the forward-facing seat, he or she may transition to a belt-positioning booster seat.

For more information about child passenger safety requirements, please click HERE.

If you need help obtaining the appropriate car seat for your child(ren), please contact your child's teacher, and our team will work to connect you with resources that can help.

Vehicle Hang Tag Reminder and Replacement
As we welcome a new faculty member to our team, we kindly request that you display your current vehicle hang tag in your car for identification purposes.

If you require a replacement hang tag, please contact the main office, and we will be happy to provide one for you. Thank you for your cooperation.
